Hello Fellow TRiO Directors,
It's time again to prepare for the COE Policy Seminar in March. Last year, we created a booklet to use when presenting to key players to help advocate for TRiO programs. This year, we hope to improve upon what we've created so the booklet can be a more useful tool.
We are requesting that each institution's project(s) submit a profile that specifically addresses the goals of your program type according to TRiO. For example, the goal of a UB program is to "increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education." A UB project would provide stats on high school graduation, college enrollment and college graduation as it aligns with a UB Annual Performance Report (APR) objectives.
A template for UB projects can be found here: UB Program Profile Template.
Please use this template for your institution/project and change the data to match your objectives.
In addition to the data, we are requesting photos, at least one student/client success profile, as well as challenges your institution/project faces. The information you provide will allow us to create a snapshot of each district and highlight objectives where we are successful as well as help us to identify what objectives we are needing more resources for.
Looking forward to a successful and productive time on The Hill with all who will be attending.
Thank you for all you do!
Dr. Darryl L. Taylor
Director, Cranbrook Horizons-Upward Bound

January 7th: Happy New Year Message from MI-CAPP President
Dear MI-CAPP Members,
Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a safe and peaceful holiday season. I am excited about my term based on what we were able to accomplish in 2015. It is indeed an honor to represent MI-CAPP at the region and national level. Your input, comments, questions and ideas are not only welcomed but needed to insure we speak as a united chapter.
Our first order of business is time sensitive and necessary to ensure all MI-CAPP members are represented and heard. In talking with many members at the EOA conference in November, it was expressed that many members did not have an opportunity to submit a nomination. With checking our membership database, it was discovered that this was indeed true. To insure that every active member has an opportunity to voice their opinion, we will be sending out new nomination requests. The membership database has been checked and will continue to be checked throughout the nomination and election process to ensure that every active member is reached.
Nomination request from the membership will begin on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Please log in and go to the For Members section of the website. You should now see the MI-CAPP Nominations/Elections page. Click on that and you should be able to begin your nominations.
Please send names of nominees to Glenda Hammond, at email@example.com or Kevin Sydnor, @ firstname.lastname@example.org. If you were nominated in October 2015 your nomination will be placed on the election ballot unless the election committee is notified that you want your name removed. The deadline for nominations is Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11:59 pm. Once nominations have ended the election timeline is as follows:
To close, I want to again salute you for what you continue to do every day in helping our students become better citizens. Let us remember to keep in touch and share valuable information at every opportunity. I would encourage you to check our website for current and critical information at least twice monthly. Lastly, let me reassure you that I work for you in representing MI-CAPP and please do not hesitate to share any concerns or thoughts with me concerning how we can make MI-CAPP the best chapter in the nation. I can be reached at office 248-645 3676 or cell 248-672-3261.
With my best wishes for a Happy, Successful and Healthy New Year,
Dr. Darryl Taylor, President Elect MI-CAPP
